Calculate square footage

1) Counter Top Surface Dimensions In order to accurately determine your Countertop Surface Dimensions there are a few guidelines that must be followed. First take the time to draw a representative layout of your kitchen. It does not have to be to scale but it must visually represent what you kitchen looks like. Remember! It is best to measure a little long than a little short for estimating purpose.

A) Allow for 1.5" of edge overhang on any edge that has a profile. Measure from that point to the wall, not to existing backsplash.
B) When measuring 'L' counters, & other non-rectangles block your counter top off into rectangles or triangles when necessary and measure each one individually. When you are faced with a triangle just measure the two sides that form the 90 degree and multiply them & divide by 2 to get the area you are looking for.
C) You must include the full counter top area even if there is to be a sink or cook-top cut out form the stone.
D) Take each of the dimensions and multiply the length X the width and divide by 144 to get the actual square footage. Round up to the nearest .5-foot.

2) Back Splash Dimensions Measuring for the backsplash is easier than the Counter Top Surface. Here you just have to determine where you wish to have backsplash and how high it should be.
There is no set rule as to how high backsplash must be although 4" is commonly used as this often corresponds with the installed height of electrical outlets. (Keep in mind that 'Full back Splash' is priced at the same rate as Counter Top Surface due to the additional installation labor).
A) Determine the height you wish to have the backsplash.
B) Measure from the edge of the counter top along the full length of the wall area to be covered.
C) Often it is both more attractive and provides for a better looking installation to use backsplash along the ends of countertops that end at a cabinet wall. Take the dimensions and multiply the length by the width and divide by 144 to determine the square footage of backsplash required. Round up to the nearest .5-foot. Now you have the Backsplash area necessary to determine pricing.

3) Lineal Foot of Edge Profile Measuring for the total amount of edge required is very easy. A) Measure along each edge that you wish to have an edge profile. B) Divide this measurement by 12 to determine the total number of feet of profile required.

Now you have the Lineal Feet of Edge Profile required to determine pricing.
